The Livery Film Fest is made up of a group of film-loving volunteers supported by the Goderich Little Theatre, the non-profit community group which owns the historic Livery Theatre. They are also associated with the TIFF Film Circuit, dedicated to bringing national and international films to communities across Canada.

From September to April, one Thursday per month, the Livery Film Fest is fortunate to be able to rent one of two cinemas at the Park Theatre in downtown Goderich to premiere their film of the month.

How do they choose which film to show? Well, that is wonderfully complicated! Volunteers read many reviews, watch shorts, make recommendations to each other and ultimately decide on a film they feel tells a good story and offers value to the audience. It might be funny, thought-provoking, scary, exciting - or all of the above! Most of all, they hope you find it entertaining.

&
THE PENGUIN LESSONS

Thursday, May 1st is the final film presentation of the Season from the Livery Film Fest!
Join us for a Short Film “To Hold The Night” with Director, Jessica Petelle. Followed by the Feature Film “The Penguin Lessons”
Save May 1 for the grand finale of the movie season presentations by the Livery Film Fest. This date is extra special because the Livery Film Fest will be presenting two films.
The Livery Film Fest is thrilled to present a short film by local Bayfield talents, Director Jessica Petelle and Cinematographer Brad Turner. The suspenseful, thriller film “To Hold The Night” was filmed in Bayfield in the summer of 2023 and features many local residents as extras. Bayfield actor Chris Potter has a feature role in the film as well. Both Petelle and Turner will be at Park Theatre to introduce the film and answer questions from the audience.
“To Hold The Night” made the rounds at several Short Film Festivals picking up many nominations and was the winner for Best Wardrobe, Best Hair and Makeup and Best Editing at the SIMI Film Festival in California.
The feature film “The Penguin Lessons”, is based on a true story. The film first premiered at TIFF in September. It stars Oscar nominee Steve Coogan as an English school teacher at a prestigious boarding school for boys in Argentina during the political uprise in 1976. The Headmaster (Oscar nominee Jonathon Pryce) encourages the school to simply keep calm and carry on.
While on a school break, Tom (Coogan) visits Uruguay and happens upon a penguin stranded on a beach and drenched in oil from a spill. Tom rescues the penguin which unlocks a special and beautiful relationship between penguin, teacher and students. “The Penguin Lessons” delivers a delightful true story with wit, warmth and a subtle insight into just how rewarding it can be to do the right thing.
Both films play at the Park Theatre in Goderich on May 1 at 7:00pm. The box office opens at 6:30. Park Theatre is located at 30 Courthouse Square in Goderich. Movies goers are invited to meet up at The Bedford following the films for a social and further discussions.
