I don't have any theatre experience - can I still volunteer?

Accepted Answer

Yes; we'd love to have you!Although some roles require previous experience, the majority are open to beginners. The GLT encourages new participants from all creative backgrounds, and experienced volunteers will be there to teach and guide newcomers.

Is there an age requirement to volunteer?

Accepted Answer

Most volunteer roles - including ushering, acting, backstage work, set construction and visual design - are open to all volunteers regardless of age.

However, to comply with Ontario law, we require volunteers who are selling 50/50 tickets or alcoholic beverages to be over 18 years of age.

What kind of time commitment is volunteering at the GLT?

Accepted Answer

The amount of time you spend volunteering for a production depends entirely on your role.Production positions (such as acting, tech, or stage management) are a higher time commitment, with rehearsals generally happening 3 times a week for 3-5 months depending on the scale of the production. These roles require consistent and dedicated involvement to ensure the success of the performance.For our front of house volunteers, scheduling is more flexible but we ask that you commit to volunteering for two nights of the show's scheduled run.

What do I get out of volunteering?

There is a lot to gain from volunteering at the GLT! Not only will you play a part in creating something beautiful - volunteering is a wonderful way to build your skills, network in the local creative community, and make new friends. And as a bonus, every year we host a Volunteer Appreciation Night - complete with drinks, entertainment and hors d'oeuvres -  to say thank you!

What is the dress code?

We ask that our front of house volunteers wear clean, dark coloured clothing while working GLT shows.
