Goderich Little Theatre presents…

HOME

Written by David Storey

Directed by Garnet Colborne

Sponsored by: West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance

October 19 – 22 and 26 – 29, 2023

On a bare terrace stroll two old gentlemen, who greet each other courteously.  They are soon joined by two women, known socially to the two men, and, later, by a young man. They discuss topics: the past, the weather, old friends, old loves, and the war. Are they perhaps in a small private hotel? In actuality, they are all patients in a psychiatric facility. Yet, in this day in their lives, there is much humour and good grace. By the time the day is over and the shadows fall, we as an audience are moved to compassion, sympathy, and respect for these extraordinarily ordinary people.

CHRISTMAS IN THE HIGHLANDS

Written by Warren Robinson

Directed by Eleanor Robinson

Sponsored by Second Streetlight Estate Winery

Christmas in the Highlands is another ‘’Cosy Mystery” written by Warren Robinson. It features period carols, costumes, and kilts to offer a visual treat and a warm Christmas feeling. It is set in Inverness in the 1890s. It includes a Highland Ball, comical high jinks and a mystery to be solved.

ELIZABETH REX

Written by Timothy Findley

Directed by David Armour

Sponsored by Catherine Armour, RMT, Massage Therapy

February 22 – 25 and Feb 29 – March 3, 2024

It’s Shrove Tuesday, 1601. Robert, the Earl of Essex is to be beheaded in the morning for leading a rebellion against the crown. Queen Elizabeth I, widely supposed to be his lover, caught by political forces she cannot overcome, awaits the morning with dread. She “requires distraction” and commands a performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Then, she joins Shakespeare and his company overnight in the barn, to wait out the curfew. What follows is a confrontation among three great minds on the nature of power, love, sex, and gender.

LEND ME A TENOR

Written by Ken Ludwig

Directed by Deborah Vieira

Sponsored by Fisher Glass & Mirror Ltd.

May 2 – 5 and 9 - 12, 2024

Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor is an entertaining comedy of errors with music set in the 1930’s. Max, a shy and awkward soul, admires world-renowned tenor Tito Merelli who has signed on to play the starring role in Pagliacci with a struggling opera company. Henry Saunders, General Manager of the company, is stressed about the performance turning out right, and insists that his assistant, Max, a secret tenor extraordinaire, watch over Tito’s every move to ensure smooth sailing. A series of crazy events and mistaken identities threaten the reputation and sanity of everyone involved. When Max gets the chance of a lifetime to emulate his hero for an adoring audience – and in front of the woman he loves – he shows the world there is more inside him than meets the eye and saves the opera company in grand, farcical style.
