(2019 Revised Edition)

Written by Ken Ludwig

Production Sponsor, Fisher Glass & Mirror Ltd.

Wed Jan 17 & Thurs Jan 18, 7pm
Auditions to be
held at The MacKay Centre, 10 Nelson St East, Goderich

Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor is an entertaining comedy of errors with music set in the 1930’s.
Max, a shy and awkward soul, admires world-renowned tenor Tito Merelli who has signed on to play the starring role in Pagliacci with a struggling opera company.  Henry Saunders, General Manager of the company, is stressed about the performance turning out right, and insists that his assistant, Max, a secret tenor extraordinaire, watch over Tito’s every move to ensure smooth sailing. A series of crazy events and mistaken identities threaten the reputation and sanity of everyone involved. When Max gets the chance of a lifetime to emulate his hero for an adoring audience – and in front of the woman he loves – he shows the world there is more inside him than meets the eye and saves the opera company in grand, farcical style.

The following are characters with brief descriptions for the audition:
MAX - age 20 to 30, aspiring tenor, the eager-to-please assistant to Saunders.
MAGGIE - age 20 to 30, dreamy and bubbly girlfriend of Max, fan of Tito Merelli.
SAUNDERS - age 45 to 60+, Maggie’s father, stern hot-headed businessman, Manager of the opera company.
TITO MIRELLI - age 45 to 55, charming, world famous tenor, known also to his fans as Il Stupendo.
MARIA- age 45 to 55, vivacious and brash, Tito Merelli’s wife.
BELLHOP - male age 17 to 30, fan of Tito, hotel bellhop.
DIANA - age 20 to 40, classy, sassy soprano with the opera company.
JULIA - age 50 to 65+, sophisticated Chairperson of the Opera Guild.

Upon arrival at the Audition, scene selections will be provided for audition purposes. If preferred, those auditioning may also prepare a 1–2-minute monologue of a humorous nature. (Please note, this is not an audition requirement).

Anatomy of a Fall is the next instalment of the Livery Film Fest. The film takes the viewer on an intimate journey and a courtroom dissection of a complicated marriage. Samuel and Sandra (brilliantly performed by Sandra Hüller, watch for an Oscar nomination!), their son Daniel and his guide dog Snoop are living in a partially renovated chalet in a remote mountain location in France. The marriage is further strained by Samuel’s resentment toward his wife and her current writing successes versus his creative block.

Daniel discovers his father dead below their attic window. At first Sandra assumes it must have been an accidental fall but a head injury suggests Samuel was pushed from the balcony. In the end, it is Daniel’s testimony that will sway the jury.

Justine Triet, the film’s co-writer and director won the illustrious Palme d’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival becoming the third female director to win the award.

This highly recommended film will play for one night only, Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Park Theatre in Goderich.

The Box Office will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12, or $8 for Livery members.

We are also awaiting confirmation of a film for our next date, February 29.  Save the date!
