Noodle Factory Jazz Project celebrates 10th anniversary
The Noodle Factory Jazz Project is a 10-piece jazz band founded in 2007 with the aim of providing a creative outlet for some of the best jazz musicians in the Grey Bruce Area. The band plays all original arrangements and compositions written by its members.
Bandleader Ian Burbidge does the lion’s share of the writing but the band also features the work of Don Buchanan, Wayne McGrath and Cam Porter.
In both our writing and playing we strive to stretch the boundaries of what a jazz band can be without getting so esoteric as to lose our audience. The 10-piece format gives us the option of being sometimes a large jazz combo and sometimes a compact big band.
With influences including Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, The Boss Brass, Oscar Peterson, Blood Sweat and Tears and Tower of Power, Noodle Factory has a little something for everyone.
Noodle Factory Jazz Project is excited to be making our premiere performance at The Livery in Goderich. We will be featuring our new lead trumpet player, Goderich native, Al Mullin in a program that reflects our Canadian roots and our decade of making jazz music popular.
The concert will include some of the arrangements and compositions from our first performance ten years ago – numbers like the quote filled arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Strike Up The Band”, Burbidge’s 11/4 masterpiece “Summer Solstice” and our Tower of Power tribute “Diggin’ On James Brown”.
You will also hear more recent arrangements of tunes by composers from Scott Joplin to Burt Bacharach, from W.C. Handy to Lennon and McCartney, from Oscar Peterson, Moe Koffman and The Boss Brass to Three Dog Night.
