Goderich Little Theatre's 2010/2011 Season
"Dr.
Barnardo's Children"
(from the
introduction to the script.)
From the late
nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, thousands of
impoverished British children were brought to Canada by
Thomas Barnardo,
a Victorian philanthropist and visionary.
Written by Robert
Winslow and Ian McLachlan, this play tells
the stories of these children in both the early and late stages
of their lives.
Time is telescoped for dramatic purposes.
One hundred and
fifty years of history is reduced to less than a hundred, with
Doctor Barnardo appearing in his prime at a time when he would
in fact have been nearing his death.
Dr. Barnardo's
Children was originally performed at
4th
Line Theatre in Millbrook, Ontario.
